Parents-Teachers Meeting Hamzah - 27 Julai 2024

Last week our family went to Parents-Teachers Meeting (PTM) at Hamzah's Kindergarten.

Hamzah currently is 6 years old.

Some introduction:
He started his 6 years old schooling session back at his former kindergarten where he went to when he was 4 years. I took him out for several reasons.

At 5 years old I sent him to a center that promotes self-directed learning, owned by a homeshooling parents team. There he went to the playground a everyday, cook almost everyday, learn about ayatul Quran and its meaning, do some activities on gross and fine motor skills, and the rest was self-directed.

During this PTM, his class teacher showed and shared with us his overall achievement.
The teacher was amazed by how fast Hamzah had progress in reading even though he had just started to learn how to read on March 2024 (started Book 1). Now at July 2024, he is already at Book 3.

As parents we are just glad how our son is engaged in his learning and take ownership of it.
The teacher kept asking, "Hamzah di rumah ada tuisyen ke atau puan ada buat bacaan dengan dia ke hari-hari ke? Sebab saya betul kagum lah tengok dia boleh baca cepat macam ni. Bukan cepat je, lancar."

Me and my husband just giggled and smiled, assuming that the teacher just said that without really wanting the answer.
But, the teacher asked for the second time.
"Oh, so she really want an answer!" my mind whispers.

My answer is summarized on this picture.

It is ok if your child not in a kindergarten at 4 and 5, provided controlled screen time, good bonding with parents or caretakes, and also a combination of unstructed and structed play at home.

Our kids are born curious (so did we as a baby long time ago). They are curios learners and their brains are developing and neurons are connection while they PLAY.

Trust them. We don't need to push them to read. They will read when they are ready.
